Coburn was discovered by Frederick H Evans at the RPS exhibition. He was asked in 1900 to exhibit with Evans’ Linked Ring exhibition, in which he became their youngest member.
He studied under Edward Steichen, Robert Demachy, and Gertrude Kasebier.
Coburn had several one man exhibitions, which was unheard of for someone in their mid-twenties.
He began experimenting with the Vortoscope and painting post-impressionist works. This new venture was unsuccessful when compared to his pictorialist photographs.
